In deep sadness I regretfully inform you that our dear hamster Murry has passed away after a freak accident that instantly broke his spine! This freak accident was Conner! He was playing with Murry in his ball but knew that stairs were dangerous so he picked him up and was carrying him down when Conner tripped and the hamster ball flew out of his grip and violently fell down the flight of stairs! With shear anxiety Murry was carried into my room where an examination was performed and time of death was announced! Ashley in whom the hamster belonged to was devastated. Her cries could be heard around the cul de sac and the sobbing brought tears to my eyes! I fondly reflected on Murry as my middle of the night companion as there are many nights I lay awake in my bed and hear Murry running on his wheel. He felt my pain and now I felt his as Ashley deals with the loss of her furry little friend. I can see that this is a big deal to the entire family as well as her friend Aubrie. She was so grieve stricken she had to go home for a minute to seek comfort from her mom. All the kids held Murry for the last time and them we nestled him in his box to buried in. Ashley decorated the box and gave sweet messages that helped heal her broken heart. I could see that the funeral to come needed to be special as to not mock his death, but to celebrate his life. Ash wanted to invite her friends so we made up some quick invitations and sent them around the street! All her friends arrived and at 4:30 pm we gathered to share our memories and to say goodbye to Murry. In went the box, in went a red vine ball he played with,in went treats of his, and in went some flowers. Dirt covered his box as we watched the darkness consume the hole. The shallow resting place was soon engulfed with the dust of the earth! Flowers placed by Ash on the loose ground above little Murry and a moment of silence incurred. Friends said their goodbyes and family comforted Ashley as we walked back into the house. It was almost perfect except our sweet little Conner who felt very little realization of the loss, said "GOODNIGHT MURRY!" in a real gruff voice right as I was filling the grave with dirt. All and all we were able to honor Murry and leave him to rest in peace while running in the wheels of heaven!

Time of death announced..LOL!!! You crack me up:) Poor Ashley...please tell her we send our condolences and hope she is able to cope with her loss:)
I am so sorry for your loss....
are you going to get a new one?
Very well written! So sad! I for sure think you need to get another, there is nothing like a pet!
Awe... what a tragedy, but what a teaching moment too. I think it's awesome that you invited the neighborhood kids to the funeral. I guess this is just another reason kids should have pets... its a simple opportunity to teach about death and the circle of life. Poor Ashley. What a good mom you are Jen. :)
Jen you never cease to amaze me! What a significant life lesson this was to all those darling little kids. I felt bad when Ashley called and told me "guess what Grandma? I'm sad!" I asked her "why are you sad". She told me her hamster, Murray died. I told her that I was sorry and that Murray is in 'hamster heaven' and that animals sometimes die unexpectedly just like all living things. What do you want a bet those kids remember that childhood experience throughout the rest of their lives!
I only wish that I get that much attention when I die! You are a great mom, with amazing patience and love for your kids. You always take time out for your kids when they need you! KUDOS!
Oh so sad!!! The funeral looked very nice!! If only Hamstiens babies didnt get all eaten up I would of given you guys one of them!Tell Ashley that I am sorry and that your a great mom for doing that for her!
It is heartbreaking to lose a pet. What a charming tribute : )
